Why do 7 percent of
children under five born in the Solomon Islands die, in comparison
to Australia’s 0.06 percent? Many remote island communities in the
Solomon Islands do not have access to health care.
UnitingWorld's health care and capacity
building project is working to change this tragic
situation. In 2009, Mobile Health Clinics covered more than 30
villages in the Western Province. Teams of health care workers
travelled by boat to the isolated villages and provided
vaccinations, antenatal/ postnatal care and health education
programs.
