The role of the coordinator
Lent Event is a fantastic opportunity for you and your
community to deepen your faith and partake in mission. But in order
to ensure that you have a fulfilling Lenten season, it is important
to have a Lent Event Coordinator.
If you have volunteered to coordinate Lent Event in your
church, school or local community, we thank you! We hope you have
fun and derive satisfaction from your involvement. Please
review our Coordinators Guide. It
contains everything you need to know to implement this program in
your community.
Your main role is to PEP your church
community:
- Promote Lent Event – before, during and after
Lent.
- Encourage full participation – to make the best
use of the resources available.
- Process donations – to make sure as much money as
possible makes it to the Lent Event projects.
You may wish to ask someone to share the role with you,
especially if you are part of a large community. In particular, we
have found that the processing of donations is often handled by
another volunteer. To find out more about this, access our Process
Donations Guide.
Promoting Lent Event
As coordinator, you are the spokesperson for Lent Event in
your community and therefore it is vital for you to take every
opportunity to promote it. Please use the posters and brochures to
motivate as many people as possible to become involved.
People will be influenced by your energy and enthusiasm -
so 'talk up' Lent Event whenever and wherever you can. Maintaining
interest, leading up to and during the 40 days of Lent, is
important for ensuring your community engages fully with Lent
Event. We all live busy lives, so weekly reminders that make keep
the Lenten journey alive in your church or group will help
greatly.
The six weekly prayer cards can
be included in your notices during Lent to help people focus their
thoughts on the projects they are connecting with.
