About Lent Event

About Lent Event

Lent Event is your opportunity to change lives (including your own!)

Lent Event is UnitingWorld’s call to individuals and churches to be personally changed by God’s work in the world, by meeting people across the Pacific, Asia and Africa who are building peace, creating justice, offering hope and bringing new life.

Since 2009, Lent Event has raised over 3 million dollars for people living in Zimbabwe, India, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, South Sudan, Fiji and many others through long-term partnerships with the Uniting Church in Australia. Together we train Christian leaders for the growing global church, create peacebuilding programs, offer clean water and sanitation, and provide education.

In 2019, our focus is on saving lives through health education, preventing violence against children and raising up new leaders. Alongside our partner church in Timor Leste, Southeast Asia’s poorest nation, we’ll continue Lent Event’s great tradition of bringing people together to work for real change.

What projects does Lent Event support?

We support projects in the Pacific, Asia and Africa that provide clean water, education, healthcare, leadership, child protection, small business startups, empowerment for women, and support in a changing climate change. In 2019 we’re featuring projects in Timor Leste, supporting our health education and clinic, and leadership training for the church, with a special emphasis on child protection.

How much of the money goes to people in need?

All the money you give is used by UnitingWorld and our partners to build lives of hope and wholeness. 75% goes directly to the work on the ground; 12% is invested into fundraising strategies that raise a minimum of $4 for every $1 invested; 18% is used to make sure that the projects you support are properly administered and accountable.
